Cleaning & Maintenance

Keeping your PAP equipment clean helps improve comfort, maintain performance, and support your overall health. Follow these simple routines to keep your device working properly.

  • Daily Cleaning

    Mask Cushion & Pillows

    • Wash with mild soap and warm water
    • Rinse thoroughly to remove any residue
    • Allow all components to dry completely before reassembling

    Tubing (After Use)

    • Disconnect and hang in a clean, dry place
    • Keep tubing away from direct sunlight while drying

    Humidifier Components (if applicable)

    • Wash lid, plate, and base with mild soap and warm water
    • Rinse thoroughly and air dry
    • Empty any remaining water daily

    Air Filter

    • Check daily
    • Wash reusable filters with warm soapy water and rinse
    • Allow reusable filters to fully dry before reinstalling
    • Replace disposable filters if visibly dirty
  • Weekly Cleaning

    Headgear & Mask Frame

    • Handwash with mild soap and warm water
    • Rinse thoroughly
    • Allow to air dry completely

    Chinstrap (if applicable)

    • Soak and wash in warm soapy water
    • Hang to dry

    Tubing

    • Run warm soapy water through the tube
    • Rinse thoroughly
    • Hang to dry in a clean area

    Water Chamber

    • Wash with warm soapy water
    • Rinse thoroughly
    • Use distilled water only when refilling
    • Allow to air dry between uses
  • Machine Care

    To keep your machine in good condition

    • Wipe the exterior every few days with a soft, damp cloth
    • Use a small amount of mild soap if needed
    • Keep the device on a clean, flat surface
    • Ensure the area around the machine is free of dust
    • Avoid alcohol or alcohol-based cleaners

Mask Leaks

  • Why is my mask leaking?

    Mask leaks can occur if:

    • The mask is the wrong size
    • The cushion is dirty or worn
    • The mask is over-tightened
  • How do I adjust my mask?
    • Pull the bottom straps to adjust the top fit
    • Pull the top straps to adjust the bottom fit
  • What should I do if my mask leaks?
    • Check the fit of your mask, cushion, and headgear
    • Clean the cushion daily with mild soap and lukewarm water
    • Re-adjust your mask while lying in your normal sleep position
    • Avoid over-tightening the mask
    • Replace worn cushions or masks as needed
  • What if leaks depend on how I sleep?

    If leaks change with your sleeping position, you may benefit from:

    • A different mask style
    • A mask refit

  • What if my tubing doesn’t fit?
    • Check the end of the tubing and try gently squeezing it
    • If it feels tight, insert your thumb and pull slightly downward to release the quick connection from the headgear

Skin Irritation & Mask Discomfort

Machine Noise

  • Why is my PAP device making an unusual noise?
    • First, determine if the noise is coming from the machine or the mask/tubing
    • If from the device:
      • Check and replace clogged filters
      • Inspect the humidifier chamber for cracks
      • Remove and reinsert the water chamber to ensure proper placement
    • If from the mask/tubing:
      • Check for leaks or loose connections
  • What should I do if the noise continues?

    Bring your device in or contact Owens for evaluation and support.

Dry Nose or Mouth

  • Why am I experiencing dryness?

    Dryness may occur if:

    • The humidifier chamber is running low or empty
    • Humidity settings need adjustment
    • There is an air leak in the mask
  • How can I fix dryness?
    • Increase your humidity settings
    • Ensure your mask fits properly to reduce leaks
    • Ask Owens about heated tubing if dryness persists
